25th February 1998

Today is Ash Wednesday. What is Ash Wednesday? It's the first day of Lent. What is Lent? How the !#? should I know? Heheheh...anyway, at school, every Ash Wednesday, they put a black cross on your forehead made of ash. And you're not supposed to eat meat that day. How was I supposed to know that? Well, I told everyone at recess I was having corned beef for lunch and everyone was like "Laaaaurrrrreennnn, you are going to heelllllllll coz you are gonna eat meat on an Ash Wednesday!" Well, excuuuuse me, but do they expect me to starve that day and fast?

    *idea*

So as a sacrifice, I decided to fast. Well, not for the whole day but I decided I won't eat recess. I said, "As a sacrifice today, I am not going to eat recess." Mira raised an eyebrow. "You? Fast? Hah! Knowing you, you'll be eating 10 pounds of food a few minutes later!" I gave her a challenging look. "Wanna bet?" "Nevermind," Mira said, shrugging. "I know I'll win anyway."

So there I sat on our table, as I watched my friends eat yummy, delicious food.

Temptation came over me at last.

First of all, Margie's french fries were in my favourite flavour, sour cream. Without thinking, I asked for a french fry. She gave me one. I asked for another. She gave me three this time. Yum, yum.

Angela had bacon for recess. Yum. I asked for one. No, I asked for two.

Then Erika couldn't finish her grape juice. I drank it all for her. Mira couldn't finish her french fries. So I ate it for her (she only ate half of it!).

Oh well. At lunch, I ate all I could eat, meaning everyone's leftovers. I felt so happy. Mira was right.
