Date: February 27, 2000 Time: 5:34 p.m. Title: The birds and the bees and the pigs and the cows Listening to: Ode to my Family by The Cranberries Mood: impatient Quote: "All animals except man know that the ultimate of life is to enjoy it"- Samuel Butler Ugh, I'm supposed to be at Cybertown with Martin right now but for some reason, it won't let me use the Virtual Reality Mode (VRML) and the chat. Oh damn, Martin has to go but what the hell. I wouldn't have been able to talk to him anyway. I've decided to turn the basement of my house in CyberTown to a concert hall, just for kicks. I decided to call it Worlds Apart because despite all the virtual reality stuff, we really are worlds apart. The basement looks really cool cause from the elevator, there's this long hallway that leads to the basement and the room itself looks like a really great place for parties, band concerts, dancing and stuff. The only thing I got for it was a bar because I couldn't find any funky-looking chairs. The restaurant booths they sold looked too boring. Ugh, I'm being too picky. I guess Martin got jealous of me cause he bought a house just like mine. I wanted to see what it looked like but like I said, it wouldn't let me use the VRML so I guess I'll have to wait till later. Ugh. Don't forget to get your own home at Cybertown and write down that Tomoe69 referred you. I've decided to become a vegetarian. See, we watched this documentary about child labor in the Philippines for Philippine History last Thursday (what it had to do with history, I have no idea). Anyway, the first part showed kids working in a slaughterhouse. The kids looked depressing (I'll write about this another time) but the way the slaughterhouse people killed the pigs and cows made me feel even worse. They'd electrocute them so they'd be stunned (the pigs and cows, not the children) and then they'd be dipped in a huge pool of boiling water. According to one of the workers in the slaughterhouse, it was one of the most advanced slaughterhouses in the Philippines. Advanced my butt. Just because they use electricity as a form of torture to the animals doesn't mean it's advanced. At lunch, I told my parents about my decision and my mom told me that when she was still working as a food technologist 20 years ago, she had seen how a cow died. They stunned it by the head and when my mom took a close look at the face of the dying cow, a tear fell out of its eye. How sad! I swear, humans can be so selfish sometimes. It must be so depressing to be a pig/cow/chicken because their only purpose in this world is to be eaten. Don't even think about lecturing me about the food chain and all that crap. I know one has to sacrifice for another to live but still. It doesn't work that way for me. My mom's story helped me make up my mind. From now on I'm going to boycott all sorts of meat except seafood cause they don't look too depressing when they die. Sure, they're still animals but I need my goddamn protein too, you know? I'm still growing . Gosh, I can't believe I'm going to eat salads and pasta from today till the day I die. I made sure I savored every bit of the chicken and all-meat pizza I had for lunch because it'll probably be the last meat I'll eat in a long time. I'm going to look up good salad recipes later so I can bring a salad to school tomorrow. I finished Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice last night and I've decided to get more of Anne Rice's books. I'll start reading reviews later so I'll know what to get next. If you are not busy, why not read an article I wrote for one rock, an online magazine . Mark also wrote an interesting story about his life. Nothing left to say. <<< ~ sign ~ archives ~ >>>
